Worship is translated from the Hebrew word Shachah (#7812) and every time it means:  To Bow Down with Knees bent and face to the ground.

Praise, on the other hand, is more complex.   Described by seven different Hebrew words including; “Worship,” “Lifting hands,” “Blessing or Giving,” “Thanksgiving,” “Singing,” “Shouting,”  but “Halal” is the word we all recognize as HalleluYah, or PraiseYah!

So I will Bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your Name.”Psalm 63:4

Praise and Bless are translated interchangeably but both are depicted by lifted hands, a posture of giving.  The original Hebrew word “Bless” is Barak (#1288).  It means “to give,”

Give to YHVH the glory due to His Name; Worship (#7821) YHVH in holy array.” Psalm 29:2

“Then the man bowed low and Worshiped (#7821) YHVH.” Genesis 24:26

“Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey, and I and the lad will go over there; and we will Worship (#7821) and return to you.” Genesis 22:5

“So the people believed; and when they heard that YHVH was concerned about the sons of Israel and that He had seen their affliction, then they bowed low and Worshiped (#7821). Exodus 4:31

“You shall not Worship (# 7821) them or serve them; for I, YHVH your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,  Exodus 20:5

“You shall not Worship (#7821) their gods, nor serve them, nor do according to their deeds; but you shall utterly overthrow them and break their sacred pillars in pieces.”   Exodus 23:24

“Moses made haste to bow low toward the earth and Worship (#7821). Exodus 34:8

“All the prosperous of the earth will eat and Worship (#7821),  All those who go down to the dust will bow before Him, Even he who cannot keep his soul alive.” Psalm 22:29

“Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before YHVH, Worshiping (#7821) YHVH.” 2 Chronicles 20:18

So Do We Lift Our Hands or Do We Kneel?

The answer is both.  Lifting our hands physically symbolizes our gratitude, joy and praise.  When we begin to know the overwhelming Greatness of our Creator’s Spirit we respond with a physically humble posture called Worship.
