Master Sin or Be Its Slave

Mastering sin is not a new concept.  Since the beginning mankind has the same test.  Adam and Eve ate, the forbidden fruit, from the tree of knowledge of Good and Bad. Maybe the temptation to be “like gods” appealed then just as much as it does now?

Before Cain murdered his brother Abel, God reminded him to master his anger.  I used to wonder how Cain could have had such a hard-heart.  Now that I’m older, I can look back on my own hard-heart.  When I felt offended it was justified, I held grudges, blamed, felt sorry for myself, and experienced the ugly, bitterness of hate.

I was like a powerless victim, preferring my bondage over the struggling for control.

Sin Equals Death

Sin is what separates mankind, (spiritually) from the Unseen Spirit of our Creator.  This separation is called death.  Although we all die physically, those who Prevail over Sin will be granted to eat from the Tree of (lasting/spiritual) Life;

“To the one who is victorious/prevails/overcomes/conquers, I will grant the right to eat of the Tree of Life in the paradise of God.” Revelation 2:7

What is Sin?

“Sin” is an all encompassing verb meaning, “to fall short, “to have an absence,” or “to Miss.”  Like an arrow Missing its target, we Misbehave, Misstep, Misunderstand, Misjudge, Misread, and make Mistakes.  In the Biblical sense “Sin” refers to those who omit, avoid, blow off, ignore, neglect, fall short of, or Miss the Way to Life.

Sin is The Absence of Love

“The entire Torah, (Way to Life) is fulfilled in a single decree: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Galatians 5:14; Leviticus 19:18

Our Creator summed up every Torah precept, statute and decree in 10 Commandments.  Y’shua, (Jesus) called Two Commandments The Greatest, and that the Essence of All is, “Love.

Jesus declared, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37; Deuteronomy 6:5

“And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:39; Leviticus 19:18

“In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you. For this is the Essence of the Torah and the Prophets.”  Matthew 7:12

“This is My command to you: Love one another.”  John 15:12John 15:17

A new commandment I give you: Love one another.  As I have Loved you, so also you must Love one another.” John 13:34

“But I tell you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,” Matthew 5:44

Love is Merciful, Faithful, and Compassionate

The promised Messiah, Y’shua, demonstrated this kind of “Love” by purposely laying  down His Life, not only for those who love Him but for His enemies, including those who persecute Him.

“But God proves His Love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Messiah died for us.” Romans 5:8

Self-Control, (Mastering Sin) is a Fruit, (Action) of the Spirit

Image result for image of the fruit of the Spirit

“But the fruit of the Spirit is Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-control.” Galatians 5:22, 23

“Flesh is born of flesh, but Spirit is born of the Spirit.”  John 3:6

“…flesh and blood cannot Inherit the Kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.”  1 Corinthians 15:50

This physical world appeals to our flesh, and with a loud voice we hear; “Forbidden fruit tastes better, and if it feels good do it.”  But those with Understanding of what is lasting/spiritual, know the five senses can only be satisfied temporarily.

Turning From Sin Equals Life

Our temporary body of flesh and blood is opposed to Loving ones enemies.  Physically we cannot even control our own tongues, James 3:8.

Like Adam and Eve, we also desire to put our own judgement above The Only Lawgiver and Judge.

There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?” James 4:12

Love Equals Life

Spiritual Life is evident by our faithfulness to God’s Commandments.

“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”  John 14:15

“Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.” John 14:21

Jesus replied, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make Our home with him.” John 14:23

“If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love.” John 15:10

“By this we can be sure that we have come to know Him: if we keep His commandments.” 1 John 2:3

“For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome,” 1 John 5:3

“And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the very commandment you have heard from the beginning, that you must walk in love.” 2 John 1:6

The Ambiguous Meaning of Salvation

If you live in the Western world you’ve probably been asked religious questions like, “are you saved?” and “when did you receive your salvation?”  These questions were like grains of irritation to me.  Like grains of sand that had made their way into the meat of an oyster shell, they can eventually become our most beautiful pearls.

It was my lack of understanding that kept me silently frustrated when I heard the phrase, “I’m saved.”  It just didn’t set right that salvation could sound like a box we’d checked off after our first confession, when we said,  “I believe and accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior,” before getting baptized.saved

Although I Understand These Are The Biblical Answers to The Question;

“What Must I Do To Be Saved?

Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.” Acts 16:31

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.” Mark 16:16

“if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”  Romans 10:9

Salvation Revealed In The Original Hebrew Scriptures

Thanks to the impartial promise of our Creator’s Word, those who seek Him do find Him, Deuteronomy 4:29;   Matthew 7:7.   And these days He even guides us in the search engines of Google.  The day I discovered the Hebrew Lexicon at Biblehub.com, I knew it was an answer to my prayer for greater understanding.

For instance, it helped me realize how word choices, culture and religious bias have their influence on translation.

When there are several English word equivalents, used interchangeably for the same Hebrew word, readers lose their cues to connect that word or phrase in other passages.

All translation require conjecture in order to convey meaning, especially when an ancient expression doesn’t exist or carry over into another language.

Translating means changing, no matter how closely one is able to transfer a meaning and modify word syntax into the readable form of another language.

Today everyone has access to the Hebrew lexicon.  Anyone, who has the desire to know and understand the original Hebrew Scriptures, can begin prayerfully meditating on their Word meanings and making the Spiritual connections that evade translation, Romans 7:14.

YHVH’s (He Exists) is Salvation

The Hebrew word translated into English as Salvation is Yeshuah.  It comes from the root Yasha, the same root in the name Yehoshua, (Jesus) which means, YHVH + Yasha, He Exists is Salvation.

Matthew 1:21

Matthew 1:21

Yasha and its different forms can be translated:  Deliverance, Victory, to Avenge, Preservation, Prosperity, Help, Rescue, Safety, Security, to Save, Salvation…

Salvation Always Was “The Good News”

“May Your Merciful Loving Kindnesses, (Chesed #2617a from Chasad) also come to me, YHVH,(He Exists) Your Salvation, (Teshuah #8668 from Yasha) according to Your Word, (Imrah #559 from Amar).  Psalm 119:41

“How lovely on the mountains Are the feet of him who brings Good News, Who announces peace And brings Good News of happiness, Who announces Salvation, And says to Zion, “Your God reigns!” Isaiah 52:7Romans 10:15

The Spirit of The Lord YHVH, (HeExists) is upon me, Because YHVH has anointed me To bring good news to the humble/afflicted, (anav #6035); He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty/release, (deror #1865) to captives And freedom to prisoners; Isaiah 61:1

Y’shua, the shortened form of Y’hoshua, explained all that was written about Himself in the Scriptures.  The Scriptures He was referring to were called Moses, (Torah) the Prophets and Writings.  In Hebrew these words form the acronym T.N.K, pronounced, TaNaK.   Today we call The Scriptures, The “Old” Testament.

“And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He explained to them what was written in all The Scriptures (The Tanak) about Himself.” Luke 24:27

Promised From The Beginning

“And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise/overwhelm, (shuph #7779) you on the head, And you shall bruise/overwhelm him on the heel.” Genesis 3:15

Looking at Genesis 3:15 with ancient Hebrew symbolism we see more than the curse or the fate that will come to the serpent, (representing satan, YHVH’s adversary).  This is a prophecy, a promise of what will happen, spoken to the serpent and his seed or offspring, meaning all who are adversary’s of YHVH.

Notice the words, “you,” and “your” are addressing the serpent, (satan).  Their will be enmity, (ebah #342) between your seed, (satan) and the woman and her Seed, (children of YHVH).

“And the dragon, (serpent) was enraged at the woman, and went to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony, (word) of Jesus, (Salvation)” Revelation 12:17

The Victory Stance!

The Seed of the woman will,  “overwhelm the head of the serpent.” Can you envision this ancient Hebrew idiom of a triumphant king, victoriously standing with his foot on the head of His enemy?

“The God of Peace will soon crush satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.” Romans 16:20

This symbolism of Victory even carries over into Greek and English!

“YHVH your God is in your midst, A Victorious/Savior, (Yasha #3467) warrior/prevailer, (gibbor #1368).  He will exult over you with joy, He will be silent/rest in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.” Zephaniah 3:17

Victory Over Satan Is Salvation

Adam and Eve, Cain and Able, Noah, Abraham, Moses and King David, to name a few, all died believing in their Salvation, the promise of the Victorious Seed.

All these people died in faith, without having received the things they were promised.” Hebrews 11:13

Today we can look back on all the Scriptural prophecies of the promised Seed who would bless All peoples of the earth, Genesis 22:18 and know that Seed is Y’hoshua, (YHVH’s Salvation).

“You pore over the Scriptures because you presume that by them you possess eternal life. These are the very words that testify about Me,” John 5:39

Y’hoshua is the Word, John 1:1.  The Word became flesh and dwelt with us, John 1:14.  He overcame every test of satan, victoriously conquering death, He purposely resurrected to lasting Life on the third day of First-Fruits, assuring us the rest of the harvest would also be blessed.  (See The Promise of The Seed Who Would Bless All Nations/People).

Victory over satan, (also known as our evil inclination) has been the true meaning of salvation/release/freedom/victory since Cain was warned that it would master him if he didn’t master it, Genesis 4:7

“Do not be like Cain, who belonged to, (mastered by) the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he slay him? Because his own deeds were evil, while those of his brother were righteous.” 1 John 3:12.

All people have been separated from the Spirit of their Creator by their iniquitiesRomans 3:23, and All people are in need of Salvation/Life, because Death is separation.

“But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.”  Isaiah 59:2.

He Brings Salvation At His Second Coming

“so also Christ, (Messiah) was offered once to bear the sins of many; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who eagerly await Him.” Hebrews 9:28

Dead People Can’t Eat From The Tree Of Life

YHVH, in His Mercy, made sure Adam and Eve did not eat from the Tree of Life in their fallen state and live in death forever.

Then YHVH God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the Tree of Life, and eat, and live forever…” Genesis 3:22,23.

God’s Merciful Compassion makes us alive, (born again) through/in Christ/Messiah, even when we were dead, (separated) in our trespasses/iniquities/sin.  It is by grace/His favor you have been saved, (from sin and death)! Ephesians 2:5; Colossians 2:13; Ephesians 5:14Isaiah 26:19

Righteousness Is The Beautiful Pearl of Salvation

Whether we understand or not, mankind’s freedom from death, (sin) equals New Spiritual Life/Righteousness.  An ancient Hebrew illustration for “New Life,” is a “Clean Robe,”  Our outer covering represent “our actions.”  This is revealed in the following verse:

She, (The Bride) was given clothing of fine linen,” linen bright and pure. For the fine linen she wears is the righteous acts of the saints/the set apart/holy. Revelation 19:8.

Before our “New Life,” (when we were dead in our sin) and even our righteous actions were like, “Filthy Rags,” Isaiah 64:6;  Zechariah 3:3.

Righteous acts, is the Hebrew word, Tzedakah #6666.  This is the hidden pearl that has always been, still is and will be, The only Way to Lasting Life

“In the Way of Righteousness, (Tzedakah) is Life, And in its pathway there is no death.” Proverbs 12:28

“Blessed are those who wash their robes, (the victorious) so that they may have the right to the Tree of Life and may enter the city by its gates.” Revelation 22:14

“To the one who is Victorious, (those who acted right) I will grant the right to eat of the Tree of Life in the paradise of God.”  Revelation 2:7

“But thanks be to God, who gives us the Victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! (YHVH our Salvation, the Messiah!) 1 Corinthians 15:57

To Be Clothed in His Righteousness Is Life

So now when I hear someone say, “I’m saved,”  I understand why today’s religious lingo has never been a pre-requisite for Salvation.  People have been dying with their hope in the Creator’s promise since the beginning, long before our language and religious divisions.

We know, “God is One.”  There is no division in His Spirit.  Those who bear the glory of “His Name,” are called His children.  His children are those who walk in Freedom from their bondage to sin and death.  His Torah has always been The Way to Truth and Life.

Y’hoshua revealed, He is The Way, The Truth and The Life, John 14:6,  and He gave All peoples very clear instructions to, “follow Him,” John 12:26.

“Whoever claims to abide in Him must walk as Jesus, (Y’shua) walked.  Beloved, I am not writing you a new commandment, but an old one, which you have had from the beginning.” 1 John 2:6.

“This is the message you have heard from the beginning:  We should love one another. 1 John 3:11

We know that we have passed from death to Life, because we love our brothers. The one who does not love remains in death.” 1 John 3:14

The Way of Life Is Righteousness, Which Is Summed Up As Love

Righteousness is Who He Is, it is our Creator’s Character and it describes the Attributes of those who walk in the way that leads to Life.  Man is able to come up with countless definitions for righteousness but Y’shua summed it up simply by quoting these two commands from Torah:

“‘Love YHVH your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.’ Deuteronomy 6:4,5.  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’  Leviticus 19:18.  All the Torah and the Prophets depend/hang on these two commandments.”… Matthew 22:37; Matthew 22:40

“The commandments “Do not commit adultery,” “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” “Do not covet,” and any other commandments, are summed up in this one decree: “Love your neighbor (one another) as yourself.” Love does no wrong to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the Law, (Torah) Romans 13:10; Leviticus 19:18

Those who are not clothed in the Righteousness of our Creator’s Love do not have Life.

“keep yourselves in the Love, (Righteousness), of God as you await the Mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, (YHVH’s Salvation, the Messiah) to bring you eternal LifeJude 1:21

Who Will Inherit Life in God’s Kingdom?

Parable of the King, Acts 10:42 and His Righteous Judgement, Matthew 25:31-40.

Like a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, All people will stand before The King on Judgement Day, awaiting the revealing, as He places the sheep on His right and the goats on His left.

Then the King will say to those on His right, inherit what has been prepared in the Kingdom, from the foundation of the world.

Because, I was hungry you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you took Me in, I was poorly clothed and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was imprisoned and you came to Me.

Then the righteous will respond,

Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink?  When did we see You as a stranger and take you in, poorly clothed and cloth You?  When did we see You sick or imprisoned and visit You?

And the King will reply,

“In Truth I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least of these you did it for Me.”

The Righteous are those who gave Food, Water, Clothing, Shelter, Visited the Sick and Imprisoned.

The Righteous will inherit eternal Life Proverbs 12:28

Finding Wisdom is finding Life and Jesus (Yehoshua) is eternal Life.  Proverbs 8:34; 1 John 5:20

Can You Make a Distinction?

Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness;Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” Isaiah 5:20

Right and Wrong. Precious and Worthless. Common and Uncommon. Life and death.

Clean and Unclean foods

Do you know what Clean and Unclean means?  Leviticus 11:47

What is a Holy (Qodesh) Priest (Kohen) of YHVH?

…and so as to make a distinction between the holy and the profane, and between the unclean and the clean… Leviticus 10:10

YHVH’s Name means, He Exists, is Holy (Qodesh #6944) Set Apart, as in, Distinguished from the world, and His people are also to be Holy, Leviticus 11:44; 1 Peter 1:16.

His command to be Holy as He is Holy,  is obeyed by those who know what distinctions make us Qodesh, Leviticus 22:32.

YHVH appointed the tribe of Levi (meaning attached or to be joined) to be His priests.  His priests served in His temporary physical temple as the picture of His Lasting Spiritual Temple.  The Temple that resides within us; Ezekiel 37:27John 14:231 Corinthians 6:191 Corinthians 3:162 Corinthians 6:16Romans 8:9.

The Torah and Prophets were the only Scripture that existed at the time of Y’shua. Defining the duties of YHVH’s priests in great detail,  The very Scripture testifying about Y’shuaJohn 5:39.

YHVH has sworn and will not change His mind, “You are a Priest Forever According to the order of Melchizedek, (King of Righteousness).”  Psalm 110:4

Y’shua, the King of Righteousness, (Melchizedek).  Our forerunner and Priest ForeverHebrews 6:20.

Y’shua’s the King of Righteousness is Our High Priest

First, what exactly was the Ancient Hebrew meaning of a Priest or Kohen?  This definition comes from Jeff A. Benner’s Ancient Hebrew research:

While the priests of Israel were the religious leaders of the community this is not the meaning of the word kohen. The Hebrew word for the priests of other nations is komer from a root meaning burn and may be in reference to the priests who burn children in the fires of Molech (2 Kings 23:10). The word kohen comes from a root meaning a base such as the base of a column. The koheniym (plural of kohen) are the structural support of the community.  It is their responsibility to keep the community standing tall and straight, a sign of righteousness.

Strong’s: #3548

Now we all know what it means to be “a Column in the Temple,”   Revelation 3:12

To understand our role as YHVH’s priests we must first understand the Hebrew word Echad,  John 17:23.  It describes the mystery of the Oneness and Unity of those who have Life in YHVH’s Spirit of Salvation, Y’hoshua.

When we know we have the same Life giving Spirit of The King of Righteousness living in us, it is a sign when we begin obediently living by His definition of what is right.

A Priest of YHVH Matures by Constantly Distinguishing

“But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained their sensibilities to distinguish good from evil.” Hebrews 5:14

“But when Christ/Messiah came as High Priest… He entered the greater and more perfect temple not made by hands (that is, not of this creation).” Hebrews 9:11

…”who has made Us to be a kingdom, priests to YHVH our Father–to Him be the glory and power forever and ever! Amen.” Revelation 1:6

Revelation 5:10  “You have made them into a Kingdom of Priests to our God, and they will reign on the (reNewed) earth.”Matthew 5:5Psalm 25:13Psalm 37:9Psalm 37:11.

“… they shall teach My people the difference between the holy and the profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the cleanEzekiel 44:23

“Her priests have done wrong to My Torah and have profaned My Holy (Qodesh) things; they have made no distinction between the holy and the profane/common, and they have not taught the difference between the unclean and the clean; and they hide their eyes from My sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. Ezekiel 22:26

He who justifies those who do bad and condemns those who do good, Both of them alike are an abomination to YHVH. Proverbs 17:15

You Know You Are A Holy Priest of YHVH When You Do What He Says

His Priests recognize the stains of the world.  They can tell which of YHVH’s instructions have been polluted, by man’s additions and subtractions.

“Do not add to His words Or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar.” Proverbs 30:6 Deuteronomy 4:2Deuteronomy 12:32Revelation 22:18Revelation 22:19

They have learned to make distinctions between Good and Bad, Light and darkness, death and Life.  Those who serve/obey Him do not act like those who do not.

“So you will again distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him.” Malachi 3:18.

Are There Forbidden Words?

“…The mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.” Matthew 12:34

Words Matthew 12 36, 37

“Death and Life are in the power of the tongue…”  Proverbs 18:21

“The one who guards his mouth preserves his Life…” Proverbs 13:3

Words not only reveal the condition of our inner most being, they actually have more power than we really understand.

Having the freedom to choose our words doesn’t mean our bad choices are harmless.

If we recognize words as being Life giving or Life taking, would we ever allow our mouth to have control?

Wouldn’t we want to make a list and know the definitions of exactly what they mean?

It was on the third day of First Fruits Jesus rose from the dead!

First Fruits was a physical symbolism that foreshadowed the Resurrection.

If the First Fruits are Holy, the root of that vine is Holy and if the root is Holy the entire vine is Holy! Romans 11:16.

The Good News is that our Creator is able to graft faith-filled branches into the Holy, Living vine!

Love is Humble

Is there a connection between Love and being humble?  I was amazed to find these two words both require the same transformation of  our thinking, Galatians 5:17Romans 12:2Philippians 2:2.  “Our natural mind is opposed to the Spirit of Truth.”   Could the Truth be as simple as discovering our pride-filled nature is the only thing separating us from knowing God’s Love?   Every prophet of God is referred to as a servant of God in the Scriptures, including Y’shuah, “Who made Himself a servant,” Philippians 2:7.  Y’shuah both taught and modeled for all to see that Love is Humble, Luke 22:26Luke 1:382 Timothy 2:24Joshua 12:6Psalm 36:1.

The Hebrew word Anav is where we get the original meaning of humble.   This word also translates into English Bibles as poor, meek and lowly.  Keeping this in mind while reading verses like; Isaiah 61:1, Proverbs 16:19 Galatians 5:23, it is helpful to discern the difference between being timid or weak and what it really means to attain a lack of pride.   “Making your life of no account,” when you are able to choose differently takes supernatural strength.  This strength comes from our knowledge that God has given us a Spirit of power, love and self-control, 2 Timothy 1:7.

Lasting Life is synonymous with knowing God’s Word of Truth, John 17:3, John 17:17.   The message of God’s Word is Spiritual, John 4:24.  Our Infinite God is greater than our finite five senses but He has promised all who seek Him will find Him.  We need to ask our Creator for spiritual perception and the ability to know Truth, Matthew 21:22.

God’s standard of Love and Humility are Spiritual

Naturally we can expect to deem God’s standard of Love and Humility as being humanly impossible.  The mind of the flesh and the mind of the Spirit are two completely differing mindsets, Romans 8:7.   The mind set on God is set on everything that is Good, Philippians 4:8.  He instructs us not to be proud, Romans 12:16, but to serve others, Galatians 5:13, loving our enemies, praying for those who persecute us, Matthew 5:44, blessing those who curse us, Luke 6:28, not judging others but being merciful as God is merciful toward us, forgiven as we forgive, Luke 6:37,  overcoming evil with good, Romans 12:21, not speaking evil or lying, Psalm 34:131 Peter 3:9, remaining thankful in adversity, Ephesians 5:20.  Y’shuah’s words rephrased, Love God and Love people, Luke 10:27.  This is the nature and standard of God, this is the Way that leads to Spiritual LifeColossians 3:13Matthew 7:12.

“Let your Conscience be your Guide”

I first heard these words as a child watching the Disney movie, Pinocchio, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOZzNOkcEgM

The author of this song, written back in 1940, understood a basic Truth that had been placed in the hearts of mankind, Romans 2:15.  We may call it our “gut instinct,” “intuition,” or “our guiding angel.”   Whatever you call it, it’s what lets us know when we are heading toward the way that leads to death or permanent separation form God’s Spirit.  In other words we all know what is right and what is wrong, and not one of us will have an excuse, Hebrews 13:18Romans 1:202 Corinthians 1:12, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.”

God’s Word Teaches Us to Be Humble in Parables

“I will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter hidden things, (mysteries since the foundation of the world, Matthew 13:35) things from before.”– Psalm 78:2

One parable Y’shuah taught His disciples about humility was; “Take my yoke (a crosspiece shared by two Oxen)  on you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble, and you will find rest for your souls/lives, Matthew 11:29

At first glance we can see the literal mental picture of two oxen attached by a wooden crosspiece or “yoke,” resting equally on each of their necks.  So what does this look like spiritually?  Y’shuah said to learn from Him, He is gentle and humble, His burden is light and this is the way we would find Rest, as in Peace!  (Light as in an undetectable weight)

The Yoke of the Flesh and the Yoke of the Spirit are opposed to each other! Galatians 5:17

Recognizing our need to be humble may have us trying in our own ability to mix our prideful nature with an outer appearance of peace.  Some people are very successful in this pretense.  This is what the religious hypocrites had learned to do when Y’shuah exposed them as being “white washed tombs.”  They were only play acting on the outside but inside, still spiritually dead, Matthew 23:27.

Y’shuah warned His disciples to watch out for the “yeast” of Religious Hypocrites, Matthew 16:12Ephesians 2:5

Again He used a literal, physical substance to point to Spiritual Truth.  Yeast represents deception, phoniness, pride and everything that keeps us separated in death, Matthew 16:6.  We can clothe it with the finest material, pretend it’s not there or act like we have it pounded down beneath our feet, because it continues to puff right back up, 1 Corinthians 5:6.  It is impossible to remove yeast from dough just as it is impossible to remove pride from our fallen nature.  So how then can we be transformed from this “body of death,” Romans 7:24?

Truth is Only Revealed to the Humble, Isaiah 5:21

Truth was purposefully concealed from the proud, the Hebrew word Ga Anav, the opposite of Anav, (those wise in their own eyes), Matthew 11:25, because God is opposed to pride; Proverbs 3:34, James 4:6 Matthew 23:121 Peter 5:5Proverbs 18:12 Luke 18:14.  (Isaiah 48:4 Jeremiah 3:3Exodus 13:9Exodus 32:9Deuteronomy 10:16Nehemiah 9:16Acts 7:51  “stiff necked” and “forehead” refers to heard headed, stubborn pride).

The finite, or flesh and blood (with all its pride) will not (and cannot) Inherit The Kingdom of God.  1 Corinthians 15:50

It is our pride at the root when we feel offended, filled with malice, vanity, bitterness, bad-temper, irritations, arguments, fighting, estrangement, resentment, grudge holding, immodesty, self-consciousness, arrogance, making judgments like, “I’m right and you’re wrong,” or “I’m good and you’re bad.”  Pride is at the root of all religious divisions.  There is no division in the Unity of God’s Spirit.  God is One, Deuteronomy 6:4Colossians 3:11.

God Revealed Himself to Moses, The Most Humble Man on Earth

Though God is Ineffable, He chose to make His Ways known to a Hebrew man named Moses, Psalm 103:7.  Approximately 1500 years before the birth of Y’shuah, Moses was taken as a baby to live in the palace of Pharaoh.  He had every reason to become proud, most likely dressing in the finest clothing, having servants wait on him, enjoying the best foods and highest education available in the land.  But Moses knew who he was and he didn’t forget his heritage of slavery.  It was because of this he was referred to as the most humble man on earth, Numbers 12:3.  (There are many parallels between Moses and Y’shuah, Deuteronomy 18:15.  Note here how both left their high positions and lived lives without pride).

Moses recorded God’s Words in the Torah, (the first five books of the Bible).  These Ancient Hebrew Words carry Spiritual meaning in physical symbolism, they were pictures foreshadowing the events to come.

Spiritual Meaning of the “Feast of Unleavened Bread”

We are told to “Clean out the Old leaven/yeast that you may be a New Batch”, 1 Corinthians 5:6,7.  This is what the Hebrew people were instructed to do before the first Passover in Egypt.  Every year since Moses led them in their Exodus from bondage, they continue to remember by riding their homes of every spec of yeast before the Passover Seder, Exodus 12:15.  This is the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for seven days nothing enters their bodies or their homes that is made with yeast.  For more information here’s the link to my article on the parallels between the Passover Lamb and Y’shuah being our Passover Lamb, https://kaylened.wordpress.com/2013/04/29/meaning-of-the-passover-seder/

We begin our New Spiritual Lives as a New Unleavened Batch, a Batch Made without Yeast.  Y’shuah referred to this as being, “Born Again” spiritually, John 3:7

In Conclusion

“Whatever controls us is our master.”  Keep in mind that we are under bondage, or “Yoked” to pride.  If you don’t believe you are in bondage to pride, try not to be offended next time someone hits one of your insecurities nerves.  We may feel comfortable with, or helpless against or justified in allowing  un-forgiveness and grudge holding to consume us, but this is the deception.

Great Peace have those who love Your instruction, nothing can or will offend them, (because they have no pride to be offended) Psalm 119:165!

There is a reason we do not to put “New” wine in old wine skins, or sew “New” cloth on old clothing, Luke 5:37.  “New” Spiritual Life comes from a completely different “root” than our natural “root,” Isaiah 11:1Revelation 22:16.  Y’shuah is that “Root,” Romans 11:16.  We cannot walk in light and in darkness, John 3:19, We cannot drink the Cup of the Lord and the cup of demons (evil), or the Table of the Lord and the table of demons, 1 Corinthians 10:21.  We can not enter through the narrow gate and drift down the wide path, they are opposites, Matthew 7:13.  We cannot be friends (loyal to) with God and friends with the world, they are adversaries, James 4:4.

The “Yoke” we now bow our necks under is a completely new “Yoke.”  We choose to obey our Creator and not our “natural desires.”  Because no one can serve two Masters, Matthew 6:24.

There is only “Life” promised to those who remain attached to the “Root” of God’s transforming Love,  John 15:5,  Philippians 3:21.

1 Corinthians 4-8 There is no Love without humility as its root.

To be rooted in His Love and not in our Pride, this is our only effort, “Let us therefore strive, (make every effort, persevere, endure) to enter that rest, that no one fall by the same sort of disobedience,” Hebrews 4:10
