The Why and How to Test Translations

Zech 9 9

This is Why We Need to Test Our Translations:

The above verse is a fulfilled prophesy quoted in Matthew 21:5.  Although it is recognizable, you will notice a small textual variation can make a big difference.

“This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: “Say to the daughter of Zion, ‘See, your King comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.” Matthew 21:5

The original Hebrew word, Tzeddiq means:  Righteous, Blameless.

The original Hebrew word Yasha means:  Salvation, Deliverance and Victory.

The original Hebrew word Anav means: Afflicted, Humble, Oppressed, Poor.

Notice all three words are translated into English as Gentle?

This is How We Test Our Translations To The Original Hebrew:

To gain better understanding of the original word meanings it is necessary to search an updated Lexicon, such as this one at http://biblehub.com/lexicon/zechariah/9-9.h

Trials, testing and temptations are common to all of us

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man.1 Corinthians 10:13.

Fire literally purifies.  It is able to change a combustible item into a different form that completely vanishes when the smoke clears.  Fire is used as a metaphor for the very thing that is able to change people into a different form.  Revealing, refining, convicting, purifying and strengthening our faithfulness, making us whole/complete, James 1:4

I consider that our present sufferings are not comparable to the glory that will be Revealed in us” Romans 8:18Romans 8:19

For You have Tried us, O God; You have Refined us as silver is refined. Psalm 66:10

You have Tried my heart; You have visited me by night; You have Tested me and You find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress.  Psalm 17:3

Examine me, O YHVH, and Try me; Test my mind and my heart. Psalm 26:2

For our God is a consuming fireHebrews 12:29

How can we patiently and even joyfully endure being salted, (purified) with Fire (Testing)?  Only those who trust The Refiner can smile hopefully through the Fire, knowing His glorious work will be revealed on Judgement Day, Malachi 3:2Romans 8:19.
